HOW CAN WE HELP

About

Our Birch residence is a safe haven for Young Persons (YP's) aged 16-25 years old. We understand the unique challenges and vulnerabilities of young people along their journey towards independence, and it is our mission to provide them with a nurturing environment where they can find stability, support, and hope for a better future.

At our residency, we prioritise the well-being and holistic development of each child entrusted to our care. Our dedicated team of professionals work closely with social workers, counsellors, educators, and various other services, in a committed to creating a warm and inclusive community where every child feels valued, respected, and empowered.

Our Core Values

1. Safety and Security: The safety and security of our residents are paramount. We provide a secure and supportive environment where children can heal from past traumas and thrive without fear.

2. Compassion and Empathy: We approach each child with compassion and empathy, recognising the unique experiences and challenges they may have faced on their journey to seek asylum.

3. Education and Empowerment: We believe in the transformative power of education. Through tailored educational programs, vocational training, and life skills development, we empower our residents to unlock their full potential and pursue their goals.

4. Cultural Sensitivity and Diversity: We celebrate diversity and embrace the rich cultural backgrounds of our residents. Our culturally sensitive approach ensures that every child feels a sense of belonging and pride.

5. Collaboration and Partnership: We recognise that supporting asylum-seeking children requires a collaborative effort. We work closely with government agencies, community organisations, and volunteers to provide comprehensive care and advocacy for our residents.

Tailored Support

We believe in nurturing the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. To that end, we offer a comprehensive range of services designed to promote independence, life skills, and well-being.

Our services include safe and comfortable accommodation, life skills development, mental health and emotional well-being support, educational guidance, and access to employment opportunities.

Please see a brief overview of our offer of tailored support below.

Individualised Support Plans

All residents have an individualised support plan specific to their individual needs, wants and goals.

These plans are reviewed regularly with their key worker to ensure that each resident is making progress towards developing their independence.

Access to Healthcare

Our committed team ensure that all residents are supported with gaining access to healthcare services.  Our prime location ensures all residents have quick and easy access to some key health care providers in just a 4 minute walk.

Safe Environment

We provide a safe and stable environment for residents to be themselves and thrive. This is achieved through the physical safety of the accommodation and the nurturing atmosphere which are both conducive to healthy growth and development.

Developing independence skills

Harbouring practical life skills is of key importance in the journey to independence. We provide in-house support with learning to cook and clean, money management, employment seeking and managing tenancy agreements to name but a few examples.

Education and employment

A YP's voice in their future building is paramount.

Therefore, we regularly support our YP's to engage in local education and job fairs to aid them in decision making in relation to education and employment.

YP's who wish to gain access to education and employment, or to attain education are supported by our specialised staff to do so.

Community Integration

We have amazing partnerships with multiple community organisations that work closely with our YP's to support them with community integration and positive contribution to the community.

We encourage all YP's to be involved with the local community in the form of volunteering or part-time job roles, to create a sense of belonging and self-esteem whilst also positively contributing to the community.
